ANDREW BURROWS AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN WAKEFIELD AND CASTLEFORD
A disturbing case involving a convicted paedophile has recently come to light, highlighting the serious nature of sexual offences committed in the Wakefield area.Andrew Burrows, aged 38 and originally from Castleford, has been sentenced to over eight years in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences involving a minor.
The courtroom proceedings, held at Leeds Crown Court, concluded with a jury convicting Burrows on four counts of sexual activity with a child.
The trial, which took place in September, revealed that Burrows engaged in a sexual relationship with a girl who was merely 15 years old at the time.
Importantly, it was established that Burrows was fully aware of her age when he entered into this inappropriate and illegal relationship.
This troubling case dates back to 2017, when Burrows, in the Kirklees area—close to Wakefield—began his unlawful involvement with the young girl.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, later disclosed these disturbing experiences to West Yorkshire Police.
The police responded swiftly, launching an investigation that was carried out meticulously by the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit, emphasizing their commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring justice.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Carole Haste, the lead officer in the investigation, issued a statement reflecting on the case.
She expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We welcome the sentencing of Burrows who took advantage of a young, impressionable victim who he knew to be under the age of consent.
The victim gave her evidence in court and remained calm, dignified and articulate.
I hope seeing Burrows brought to justice can now give her some closure and allow her to move on with her life.” Furthermore, Dc Haste reaffirmed the police’s dedication to pursuing justice in all cases of sexual offending, emphasizing that every report received by West Yorkshire Police is fully investigated by specialists who prioritize the needs and well-being of the victims throughout the process.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat abuse and hold offenders accountable.
