ANDREW BROOKS FROM BULWELL SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN NOTTINGHAM

In a case that has shocked the local community of Bulwell and the wider Nottingham area, Andrew Brooks, aged 49, was sentenced to a total of 17 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses involving two young girls. The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court, where Judge Timothy Spencer QC delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing the gravity and shamefulness of Brooks' actions.

Brooks, who resides on Norwich Gardens in Bulwell, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including rape, sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual acts, watching sexual acts involving a child, and the possession of indecent images of a minor. His guilty plea came after a thorough police investigation that uncovered disturbing evidence of his misconduct.

During the court proceedings, Judge Spencer did not hold back in condemning Brooks' behavior. He described the offenses as “shameful and serious,” highlighting the severe impact such abuse has on victims. The judge pointed out that these acts constitute a grave form of exploitation and abuse, with consequences that are both long-lasting and far-reaching. He also noted that Brooks’ actions had exploited the vulnerabilities of one of the girls, who was already facing numerous personal difficulties at the time.

It was revealed that Brooks had preyed on one of the victims over a period of three years, likely beginning in the summer of 2008. The judge detailed the extent of the abuse, which included multiple incidents of sexual assault. One of the girls was subjected to a sexual act performed by Brooks, and she was also forced to view images of sexual acts—an experience that the court described as part of a grooming process designed to desensitize and prepare her for further abuse.

Judge Spencer emphasized the seriousness of Brooks’ conduct, stating that the activity was “extremely serious” and left no choice but to impose a substantial prison sentence. He also pointed out that if Brooks had exercised restraint and stopped his offending, the sentence might have been less severe. However, the defendant did not cease his abusive behavior, and his continued actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for the harm caused.

When initially confronted with the allegations, Brooks attempted to deny the accusations, trying to “brazen it out,” according to the judge. It was only after a meticulous police investigation that sufficient evidence was gathered to confront him with the truth.

In addition to his prison term, Brooks was ordered to serve an extra year on license following his release. The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order to protect the victims and prevent any further contact. The judge noted that the additional year on license would extend Brooks’ time in custody, effectively requiring him to serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release.

Brooks’ legal representative acknowledged the extended period of incarceration, which would result in a longer prison stay for their client.
