EXETER CHILD ABUSER ANDREW BILLING EXTRADITED FROM CANADA AND SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON

In a significant development in the fight against child abuse, Andrew Billing, a man originally from Exeter, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being extradited from Canada to the United Kingdom.

Billing, who believed he had evaded justice by emigrating across the Atlantic, was ultimately brought back to face the serious charges against him.

Billing, who previously resided on Albert Street in Exeter, left Britain in 2003.

At that time, he was working as a printer in the Lapford area and living in the Burnthouse Lane and Farm Hill neighborhoods of Exeter.

His departure came at a time when his four victims, who were children at the time, were either too young or too frightened to come forward and reveal the abuse they had endured.

Over the course of a decade, Billing engaged in a pattern of disturbing and predatory behavior, abusing one boy and four girls, leaving them with deep psychological scars that would haunt their lives for years to come.

Despite relocating to Canada, Billing managed to maintain a facade of a respectable family man.

He worked with local schools and even collaborated with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which made him appear trustworthy and unassuming.

However, his past was not hidden forever.

The victims, after years of silence, found the courage to disclose their traumatic experiences in 2008 and 2009.

Their revelations prompted a thorough investigation that eventually led to Billing’s extradition back to the UK.

Billing’s crimes were detailed during his trial at Exeter Crown Court, where he faced 22 counts of indecency and indecent assault.

He denied all charges, claiming that the allegations were fabricated.

Nevertheless, a jury found him guilty of all the offences last month.

The case was then transferred to Truro Crown Court for sentencing, where Recorder Richard Smith QC handed down a 12-year prison term.

The judge emphasized the severe and lasting impact of Billing’s actions, stating that he had “irreversibly damaged” the lives of his victims for “a few moments of sexual gratification.” Prosecutor Sean Brunton presented impact statements from three of the four victims, illustrating the profound and enduring trauma inflicted by Billing.

One victim described how Billing’s abuse had transformed his childhood from one of happiness to one marked by fear and nightmares, stating, “For a few moments of sexual gratification Billing irreversibly damaged my life.

His selfish actions took my childhood.

He turned me from a bubbly, happy child to one who knew and felt nothing but constant fear.” Billing’s defense attempted to discredit the victims, claiming that they had conspired to fabricate their stories.

He argued that the allegations were false and that he was being unfairly scapegoated.

He insisted that he was living a happy life in Canada with his wife, working with schools and the RCMP, and had no knowledge of the accusations against him.

Despite these claims, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him, and he was subsequently sentenced to a lengthy term behind bars, serving as a stark reminder of the long arm of justice and the importance of protecting vulnerable children from predators.
