ANDREW BAUGH SENTENCED IN WREXHAM FOR DEPRAVED OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
Police responded urgently to a tip that a man was discussing the rape of a child online, uncovering extremely disturbing and depraved offences, a court was told today.
Andrew Baugh, 41, of Gresford Road, Llay, Wrexham, an engineer with no previous convictions, was sentenced to seven years in prison at Mold Crown Court.
He pleaded guilty to charges of possessing indecent images and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Prosecuting barrister Dafydd Roberts explained that police found approximately 150,000 pictures and videos on Baugh’s devices, although these were not fully categorized.
He noted that there was a large amount of material depicting child sexual abuse and torture of distressed youngsters.
Baugh told police he had engaged in online chat through Kik, describing it as a fantasy.
Defence lawyer Oliver King presented a letter of apology from Baugh, stating that he had received counselling from a psychotherapist.
"On any view, these are deeply, deeply unpleasant offences, and the defendant is entirely realistic about the sentence he is going to receive," the barrister said.
"He wants me to convey his remorse to the court.
He’s deeply ashamed of what he’s done." Judge Nicola Jones addressed Baugh, emphasizing that there were real victims involved and describing the offences as extremely concerning and depraved.
As part of his sentence, Baugh will be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order with various conditions, and he is required to register as a sex offender.
