ANDREW ANDERSON'S REIGN OF TERROR IN KILMARNOCK: SEX OFFENDER SENT BACK TO JAIL FOR FIVE YEARS AFTER REPEATED RAPE OFFENSES

In a disturbing series of events that have shocked the community of Kilmarnock, Andrew Anderson, a 34-year-old convicted sex offender, has been sentenced to five years in prison following his latest heinous crimes. Anderson’s criminal history is extensive and troubling, marked by a pattern of sexual violence that spans over a decade.

His initial conviction dates back to 2006 when he was found guilty of assaulting a 13-year-old girl. He received a six-year prison sentence, coupled with a two-year period of community supervision upon his release. Despite this, Anderson was released early in 2010, two years ahead of schedule. Less than a fortnight after his early release, he committed another grave offense by raping a woman who was asleep at the time. The victim reported the assault to the police, but authorities stated there was insufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution at that time.

In 2012, Anderson was recalled to prison on unrelated charges and was ordered to serve the remainder of his original six-year sentence for the 2006 rape. He was released again in 2014, only to commit yet another serious crime. This time, he raped a woman he had known since her school days. The victim, who was frightened by Anderson’s history of sexual abuse, revealed that he had been involved in inappropriate touching when she was around 14 years old, between 2002 and 2003. Over the years, Anderson’s abuse escalated, culminating in a violent assault where he pinned her down and raped her.

The most recent incident occurred last year when Anderson appeared at the victim’s home wielding a hammer. This terrifying encounter prompted her to contact the police, revealing that Anderson had raped her once again. His actions culminated in a court appearance at the High Court in Glasgow, where Lord Armstrong sentenced him to an Order for Lifelong Restriction (OLR).

During the sentencing, Lord Armstrong emphasized the danger Anderson poses to the public, stating, “You will only be released when you are no longer considered a danger to the public.” The court’s decision reflects the severity of Anderson’s repeated offenses and the ongoing threat he represents.

In response to the case, a Scottish Government spokesperson reaffirmed their commitment to a victim-centered justice system, working closely with the Crown Office, Police Scotland, and the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service to ensure victims’ rights are prioritized. Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf also addressed concerns about the perceived leniency of the justice system, asserting that the evidence does not support claims that the SNP is ‘soft’ on crime. He emphasized that victims should be at the heart of justice proceedings.

However, critics remain skeptical. Scottish Tory justice spokesman Liam Kerr pointed out that the case highlights systemic failures, noting that Police Scotland took five years to locate a violent offender who had breached his electronic tagging order. Kerr argued that if the government truly aimed to eliminate a ‘soft touch’ approach, cases like Anderson’s must be prevented from happening again. He expressed frustration that Anderson was released early after raping a young girl and then went on to commit two more assaults, including the rape of the woman in her home.

Anderson’s latest sentencing, which includes the OLR, was met with mixed reactions. The second victim chose not to comment publicly, but a friend of hers expressed her frustration, stating that she believed the justice system was a “joke.” The friend criticized the authorities for releasing Anderson early, asserting that prison does not seem to have any effect on him. She questioned whether an OLR could truly protect the public, describing Anderson as a “psychopath” for his repeated crimes against women, including a 13-year-old girl. Her sentiments reflect the deep mistrust and fear felt by many in the community of Kilmarnock, where Anderson’s actions have left a trail of trauma and outrage.
