PETERSFIELD OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL MOTHER’S MURDER BLAMING DEMONS
A man named Anarlyn Jones, formerly known as Bronwyn Jones and now identifying as male, received a life sentence for the murder of his mother, Anna Jones. The attack happened in her residence on Station Road, Petersfield, Hampshire, on the evening of 9 May 2023.
Jones was 26 years old at the time and had a history of mental health issues, including an earlier incident in October 2022 where he attempted to strangle his mother.
That incident was classified as a psychotic episode, leading to the charges being dropped.
During proceedings at Portsmouth Crown Court, Jones admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility but denied being guilty of murder.
The court imposed a life term with a minimum of 20 years and 27 days.
The defendant’s past included mental illness and alcohol misuse.
Witnesses described seeing him on the day of the killing, climbing the stairs 'like something out of a horror film,' covered in red, and carrying a bottle of brandy.
He was also heard saying multiple times, 'I've killed her, I've killed her,' after already alerting emergency services.
He explained to police that he believed his mother was pleading with him to do it or that demons were controlling him.
He recounted climbing onto her and repeatedly slashing her, referencing his abusive childhood and ongoing mental health struggles.
Despite her resistance, Anna Jones died from extensive blood loss due to injuries to her head, neck, trunk, and arms.
The defendant opted not to testify and did not call any witnesses at the trial, with the court ultimately sentencing him accordingly.
