LONDON MINICAB DRIVER JAILED FOR RAPING STUDENT WITH DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
Amos Mbonu, aged 48, from Bow, London, was convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison for a heinous crime involving sexual assault.He was an unlicensed minicab driver who twice raped a student after enticing her with drugs and alcohol.
The victim was attacked after she disembarked from the Tube at Barbican, where Mbonu approached her offering cocaine.
He then transported her to a party in Leytonstone, where he continued to plying her with wine.
Eventually, he attacked her in a deserted car park while driving her home.
The victim reported that she has since suffered depression, fears leaving her home, and finds it difficult to enjoy a normal social life.
The judge, Rajeev Shetty, described the crime as "heinous" and ordered Mbonu to serve an additional five years on licence upon release, highlighting the danger he may pose to women.
Mbonu denied the rape charges during trial but was found guilty by a jury in July; he had before been cleared of a second rape in 2001.
He was also convicted of supplying cocaine.
The victim's impact statement expressed her distress, stating she no longer visits clubs or bars with friends and fears she may never regain enjoyment in life.
