MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR MANIPULATIVE RAPE CAMPAIGN
Amaniel Tewelde, 37, from Collyhurst in Manchester, was convicted on multiple charges including two counts of rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He subjected a woman to a lengthy period of abuse, which included threats and coercion over several years.
Despite her pleas for him to stop, Tewelde persisted with sexual assaults.
It was revealed in court that he first met his victim in Salford in 2014, after which he sexually assaulted her.
On subsequent occasions, he ignored her requests to stop touching her and raped her.
His acts of control included threatening that he would stop seeing or caring for her if she did not have sex, leading her to fear for her safety.
The abuse intensified to include another rape during a visit to Blackpool.
Police emphasized that Tewelde’s conduct left the woman feeling unsafe, isolated, and trapped.
The legal process was challenging for her, but she eventually spoke out in court, which Detective Sergeant Graham Parry called an “incredibly tough journey.” He was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, placed under a restraining order, and will be on the sex offender register for the rest of his life.
