ALVIN TUITT AND SHOCKING RAPE IN LONDON
Alvin Tuitt, a 24-year-old man from Lewisham, was sentenced to a decade behind bars after being convicted of violently assaulting a 12-year-old girl in a disabled toilet located at King's Cross station.The horrific incident took place last year, igniting alarm and concern within the London community regarding safety and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
The events leading up to the assault began on October 10 last year, when Tuitt began stalking his young victim, who was traveling alone from Maryland station in Newham toward King's Cross.
It was during this journey that he approached her at Maryland station under what appeared to be an attempt at casual interaction.
However, his true intentions soon became apparent.
After engaging with her, Tuitt offered to lend her a power pack to charge her phone to earn her trust.
Demonstrating what police described as manipulative behavior, he also paid for her train ticket for the next leg of her journey, further extending what appeared to be helpful assistance.
Throughout the journey, Tuitt kept close to the girl, accompanying her all the way to her destination.
Upon arriving at King's Cross, he led her to a disabled toilet within the station, where he committed an unimaginably heinous act—raping her.
Not stopping there, he allegedly attempted to assault her again.
The victim, clearly distressed and traumatized, managed to report the incident to police later that same day.
Following her report, law enforcement agencies acted swiftly.
Within 24 hours of the attack, Alvin Tuitt was arrested, charged, and placed in custody pending further proceedings.
During the legal process, he pleaded guilty to the charges of rape and attempted rape, a stance that led to his sentencing at the Inner London Crown Court earlier this Tuesday.
During the sentencing hearing, the judge handed down a sentence of ten years' imprisonment for the rape conviction, complemented by a five-year extended period on licence, ensuring continued supervision upon release.
For the attempted assault—also involving the same young girl—Tuitt received a concurrent sentence of eight years.
Additionally, as part of the court’s ongoing effort to prevent him from committing similar offenses in the future, he was subjected to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and notification requirements.
The judge did not hide his praise for the bravery shown by the victim, commending her for coming forward and providing police with crucial testimony that assisted in securing a conviction.
Detective Constable Mark Pink, speaking about the case, emphasized the vulnerability of the young girl, noting, "The victim in this case was 12 years old and was extremely vulnerable.
She has been extremely brave in telling police what happened and providing testimony to assist the investigation.
The effect that this incident has had on her life and that of her family cannot be measured." Pink also highlighted Tuitt’s criminal history, pointing out that he had previous convictions for similar offenses, making his current conviction and lengthy sentence all the more justified.
As a result, Alvin Tuitt can expect to spend many years in prison while ongoing measures will monitor his behavior long after his release, reflecting London's firm stance on safeguarding its most vulnerable children from predators.
