Harlow Sexual Abuser
In February 2019, Allan Stimson, a 79-year-old pensioner from Wharley Hook in Harlow, was sentenced to jail for attempting to meet a 15-year-old boy at McDonald's with the intent to have sex and take him home. During the court appearance, Stimson appeared stunned when Judge Patricia Lynch announced the decision, having expected a suspended sentence.

Stimson, who was widowed since his children were young and had struggled with issues regarding his sexuality following his wife’s death, had a history of using gay-dating apps such as Grindr to contact younger men typically between 18 and 35 years old.

The grooming began in May 2017, when Stimson started communicating with a profile named 'Ben', whom he believed to be 15 years old. Using the username 'Just Fun', he discussed meeting at McDonald's and even mentioned bringing condoms to their encounter. However, 'Ben' was actually an adult decoy account operated by the paedophile hunter group CSE Interceptors.

Despite knowing 'Ben' claimed to be 15, Stimson initiated plans to meet and engage in sexual activity with someone over 60 years his junior. Prosecutor Cyrus Shroff presented some of Stimson's disturbing messages in court, including his admission that he had never been with someone as young as 'Ben' before and that he would bring protection for their meeting.

During the court proceedings, Mr. Shroff highlighted correspondence where Stimson assured 'Ben' that he wanted him to enjoy himself and that he would respect his body. The messages also included 'Ben' asking if Stimson had protection, to which he responded affirmatively.

Two days post their initial contact, police arrested Stimson at his home in Harlow. In police interviews, he dismissed the incident as a 'silly mistake' and claimed he wouldn’t have done anything 'Ben' didn't want to do. Stimson also referenced Viagra tablets and suggested that if they went to his house, the interaction would mostly involve touching. He added that he would have returned 'Ben' home if he looked very young, expressing remorse by saying, 'I am sorry for the silly mistake and I have never been with children.'

Stimson pleaded guilty to the charges in August of the previous year. The judge, in her sentencing remarks, acknowledged the pre-sentence report, which revealed Stimson's honesty about his online activities and his interest in meeting men around twenty years old. However, she emphasized that the court must protect children from predators like him, especially given that he engaged in grooming behavior with someone he believed was 15.

The court emphasized that children of that age are strongly protected by the justice system and made it clear that, although Stimson claimed he thought it was a scam, he nonetheless went ahead with plans to meet and potentially engage in penetrative sex with what he believed to be a 15-year-old. The judge concluded that Stimson was willing to meet and exploit children if the opportunity arose, reinforcing that such behavior is unacceptable and is firmly condemned by the court.
