ALLAN GALBRAITH SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR REPEATED SEXUAL ABUSE OF SCHOOLGIRL
In June 2018, a disturbing case of child sexual abuse came to light in Glasgow, involving Allan Galbraith, a 38-year-old man who subjected a young schoolgirl to repeated acts of sexual violence.The victim, who was only 12 years old at the time, endured a harrowing ordeal that lasted over two years, during which Galbraith exploited her trust and innocence.
Galbraith, a father of five, preyed on the girl at a residence within Glasgow.
The abuse was not only physical but also manipulative, with Galbraith maintaining control through threats and secrecy.
The young girl was too frightened to confide in anyone about her suffering, which allowed the abuse to continue unchecked for an extended period.
It was only after she broke down in tears and confided in her mother that authorities were alerted.
The police launched an investigation that quickly led to Galbraith’s arrest.
During a search of his home, officers found him hiding in a cupboard beneath a pile of rubbish, a clear indication of his attempt to evade justice.
The investigation revealed that Galbraith had been sending the girl text messages, often when he wanted to engage in sexual activity, which served as a disturbing cue for her to go to his bedroom.
Prosecutors detailed that Galbraith’s abuse was frequent, occurring approximately once a week, and sometimes even more often.
The young girl, unable to comprehend the full extent of what was happening, was manipulated into believing she could not tell anyone, with Galbraith threatening that disclosure would lead to him getting into trouble.
Galbraith later appeared in the High Court in Glasgow, where he admitted to raping the girl between January 2016 and February of the following year.
Despite his guilty plea, he denied most of the allegations in a pre-sentencing report, claiming that he had only engaged in sexual activity with the girl twice when she was 13.
He also stated that there had been approximately 70 instances of sexual contact, a claim that was met with condemnation.
During sentencing, Lady Rae sentenced Galbraith to six years and ten months in prison.
The judge expressed her outrage at the severity of his actions, stating that he had “destroyed [the girl’s] childhood.” She emphasized the profound impact of his crimes on the young victim’s life and underscored the importance of holding offenders accountable for such heinous acts.
