ALLAN FREEDMAN FROM GLASGOW ESCAPES PRISON AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT AT T IN THE PARK IN STRATHALLAN

In April 2016, a security guard employed at the renowned T in the Park music festival, held at the Strathallan Castle site, was involved in a serious incident that drew significant attention from local authorities and the public alike.

Allan Freedman, a resident of Thornliebank in Glasgow, was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl during the event, an act that occurred amidst the chaos and crowds typical of such large-scale festivals.

The incident unfolded when the young girl, who was attending the festival with a group of friends, found herself separated from her companions.

Believing they might be near the Slam tent, she approached a man she thought was part of the security team for guidance.

This man was later identified as Freedman, who was wearing a high-visibility vest, a clear indicator of his role as an official security personnel at the festival.

According to court proceedings, Freedman led the girl a short distance before his behavior took a disturbing turn.

He proceeded to grope her, kissed her repeatedly on the face and lips, and made unwanted physical advances.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was reportedly terrified by Freedman’s actions, which caused her significant distress.

The situation escalated to the point where police were called to intervene.

During the court hearing at Perth Sheriff Court, the prosecution, represented by Depute Fiscal Carol Whyte, detailed the events.

Freedman, aged 43, admitted to the sexual assault, acknowledging that he had handled the girl’s knee and waist and had kissed her multiple times without her consent on July 10.

His actions were deemed a serious breach of conduct, especially given his position as a security officer at the festival.

In his defense, solicitor David Holmes explained that Freedman had lost his job as a result of the incident, which was an expected consequence.

Holmes stated that Freedman was unable to provide a clear explanation for his behavior, describing it as a lapse in judgment.

The defense also mentioned that Freedman expressed regret and hoped to meet the girl afterward, a hope that was clearly unrealistic given the circumstances.

Holmes emphasized that Freedman recognized the inappropriateness of his conduct and apologized for his actions.

Despite the gravity of the incident, the court decided against a prison sentence.

Instead, Freedman was placed on supervision, ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community service, and was registered as a sex offender for one year.

Additionally, he has since been dismissed from his security role at the festival, marking a significant consequence for his misconduct.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about safety and conduct at large public events, especially involving individuals in positions of authority and trust.
