ALISTAIR THORPE FROM EDINBURGH CAUGHT SENDING SEXUAL COMMENTS TO UNDERCOVER PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS
In August 2021, Alistair Thorpe, a part-time cleaner residing in Edinburgh, was legally mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of three years.
This decision followed his conviction for engaging in inappropriate online conduct and was part of a broader set of restrictions imposed by the authorities.
Thorpe was placed under the supervision of the social work department for the same duration, which included a specific conduct requirement that limited his Internet access.
Additionally, he was subjected to a restriction of liberty order, requiring him to remain within his home address from 7.30pm until 6am daily, a measure that would be enforced for the next 145 days.
The incident that led to Thorpe’s conviction dates back to June 2021, when paedophile hunter groups in Edinburgh exposed him for attempting to contact a person he believed to be a 14-year-old boy.
The group, known as Child Protectors Scotland, set up an online decoy profile under the name 'Tom Phillips' to lure potential offenders.
Thorpe, 49 years old at the time, initiated contact with this decoy account and soon began sending highly inappropriate and sexual messages.
