In February 2021, a disturbing case unfolded involving a young man from Swindon who traveled a significant distance to Stoke-on-Trent with the intent of engaging in illegal sexual activities with a minor.
The individual, identified as 21-year-old Alistair Eccleston, demonstrated a troubling level of determination to carry out his plans, which ultimately led to his arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.
Eccleston had initiated contact with a 15-year-old boy through Instagram, establishing a communication that would set the stage for his journey.
Without hesitation, he drove approximately three hours from his home in Swindon to Stoke-on-Trent, specifically targeting Festival Park as the location for their clandestine meeting.
His decision to undertake such a lengthy drive underscores the seriousness of his intent and the premeditated nature of his actions.
Upon arriving at Festival Park, Eccleston and the young boy met in a secluded car park.
According to court reports, the encounter quickly turned sexual.
Prosecutor Steven Bailey described the events at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, stating, “They hugged and drove to a Festival Park car park.
The defendant tried to kiss but he resisted.
The defendant then began to touch and kiss his genital area.
Each of them performed a sex act on each other.” Bailey further explained that the pair had to pause their activities multiple times as passing cars threatened to expose their illicit conduct.
It was also revealed that Eccleston was aware of the boy’s age, admitting he knew he was only 15 at the time of their encounter.
Following his arrest, Eccleston faced charges and pleaded guilty to two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
His sentencing included a two-year jail term, which was suspended for 24 months, allowing him to avoid immediate imprisonment under certain conditions.
Additionally, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future conduct and ordered him to complete 140 hours of unpaid community service.
