2009: DUDLEY RAPIST JAILED
A man from Dudley has been told by a judge that he faces a minimum of eight years in prison after being convicted of raping two women in separate incidents within the local area.Judge Hilary Watson described 37-year-old Ali Walleed, of Hellier Street, as a serious threat to women and indicated he would only be released once authorities deemed him safe to re-enter society.
Although Walleed denied the charges, a jury found him guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court following his trial.
As a result, the judge sentenced him to an indeterminate prison term for the offences, with the requirement that he remain on license and register as a sex offender for life.
Addressing Walleed directly, the judge stated, "I believe you are a liar and a fantasist," and pointed out that he appeared to have exploited the court process to derive personal sexual satisfaction from his victims’ suffering.
She expressed concern about his attitude towards women, describing it as disturbing, and accused him of viewing women as objects, taking pleasure in listening to their testimony about his crimes.
Walleed, whom the judge described as deceitful, manipulative, and resourceful, carried out his first attack at night inside a woman’s home, threatening her with a knife, employing violence using a metal coat hanger, and raping her, leaving her in fear and shame.
The second assault occurred over a year later, with the victim being heavily intoxicated during the attack.
She struggled to give evidence because of her drunkenness, and Walleed took advantage by stealing her phone—the only way she could communicate—and leaving her injured and distressed in the street.
She was later found by a passer-by and taken to hospital.
The judge told Walleed, who continued to protest his innocence during the hearing, that he was a dangerous offender whose crimes had caused long-lasting harm to his victims.
Her verdict reflected the serious and enduring impact on the women affected.
