GREAT YARMOUTH MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON DIES
A man who was incarcerated for multiple sexual offenses involving a child under 13 after abusing a position of trust has passed away.
Alfred Geoffrey Grimble, aged 80 and formerly of Martham, Great Yarmouth, targeted a single victim and committed numerous crimes between 2013 and 2017.
Grimble denied 13 charges of sexual offenses and faced trial at Norwich Crown Court in 2023.
The charges included seven counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, five counts of assaulting a child under 13 through penetration, two counts of raping a child under 13, and encouraging a child to take part in sexual activities.
He was found guilty on all 13 counts, received a 15-year prison sentence, an additional year on license, and was subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
He also confessed to two other charges.
An inquest into his death was initiated at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, with a preliminary cause of death listed as lung cancer.
Grimble died at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital on February 16.
The full inquest is set for August 27.
