FALKIRK MAN JAILED FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man identified as Alexander Ferguson was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for sex offences he committed 25 years ago.Ferguson, of Thornhill Road, Falkirk, admitted to having sex with a 12-year-old girl in houses outside Falkirk from June 2, 1968, until June the following year and committing indecent acts with her.
Ferguson, who was acting as the girl's babysitter, used his position to sexually abuse her after pretending to be a Roman Catholic to gain easier access to the family’s house.
He warned the girl that if she told anyone, she could be taken away from her parents.
The court, presided over by Lord Allanbridge, stated that despite the offences taking place 25 years prior, a custodial sentence was necessary.
Ferguson was jailed for three years.
The prosecution, led by Mr.
Iain Bonomy, QC, detailed that Ferguson's abusive acts included simulating sex and having sexual intercourse with the girl while acting as her babysitter.
The incidents came to light about two years ago when the police spoke with the victim on a different matter, and she decided to disclose what had happened years earlier.
Ferguson's defense, represented by Mr.
Hugh Matthews, QC, argued that he was 23 or 24 at the time of the offences and that a psychiatric report indicated he was no longer a danger to the public.
