SCOTTISH LABOUR MSP ALEX ROWLEY ACCUSED OF ABUSIVE MESSAGING
Alex Rowley, a Scottish Labour MSP and former interim leader, has been accused of sending a series of abusive text messages to a woman who described him as “a ruthless bully” who harassed her for three years following the end of their relationship. The woman reported that she had informed police about the alleged behaviour, and no further action was initially taken.
Police Scotland later apologized to her for how her complaint was handled.
In response to the allegations, Rowley has firmly denied them, stating: “I totally refute these allegations and will take all steps necessary to clear my name.
These allegations must be properly and thoroughly investigated in line with our party’s procedures, and I will refer myself to the party so such an investigation can take place.” Scottish Labour suspended Rowley, effective immediately, withdrawing the whip from him in the Scottish parliament and noting that this suspension would last throughout the investigation period.
Prominent figures within the party, including candidates for the Scottish Labour leadership, called for his suspension, emphasizing a serious stance against harassment.
Rowley previously served as an education official for the TUC and acted as election agent for Gordon Brown for five years.
