Port Talbot Rapist
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Port Talbot, a man named Alex Prosser was convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a vulnerable young girl. The incident began when Prosser, 34 years old, initiated contact with a child on Snapchat, a popular messaging platform. Initially, he connected with another child, but through her, he managed to establish communication with an 11-year-old girl, who was clearly aware of her age. Despite her honesty, Prosser engaged in manipulative and predatory behavior, which included persistent requests for explicit images and videos. He sent her photographs and videos of his genitals, further grooming her for his own depraved purposes.

According to court reports, Prosser arranged to meet the young girl at his flat in Port Talbot. When she arrived, he welcomed her with cuddles on his bed, then proceeded to touch her breasts and genitals. The assault escalated as Prosser forced her to perform oral sex on him. The young girl’s mother discovered the Snapchat exchanges, which prompted her to confront Prosser directly. She then reported the matter to the police, leading to a series of investigations that uncovered the full extent of his depravity.

Police officers responded to the scene at Prosser’s residence, but he was not at home at the time. However, they found blood outside the property and forced entry into the flat. Inside, they discovered a trail of blood and a bloody knife, indicating a violent incident. Subsequently, officers located Prosser injured on a slipway near the RNLI station on Aberavon seafront. His phone was seized and examined, revealing a horrifying collection of over 1,200 indecent images and videos, including 700 Category A images depicting the most extreme forms of sexual abuse. Some of the children in these images were estimated to be as young as 18 months old.

During police interviews, Prosser largely refused to comment, offering only a vague statement that he had been “waiting to die for the last 10 years” and expressing feelings of despair about his life. The case was further compounded by a heartbreaking impact statement from the victim’s mother, who described her ongoing suffering. She revealed that she struggles with sleep and nightmares since discovering her daughter’s abuse. Her daughter, she said, rarely talks about what happened but often blames herself and apologizes. The mother described the entire ordeal as “every mother’s worst nightmare.”

Prosser, of Trinity Court in Port Talbot, had previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the rape of a child under 13, assault of a child under 13 by penetration, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and possession of numerous indecent images and extreme pornography. His sentencing took place at Swansea Crown Court, where Judge Catherine Richards condemned his actions, emphasizing the vulnerability of the young girl he assaulted. She noted that the pre-sentence report described him as the “epitome of a predator paedophile,” which influenced her decision to impose a lengthy sentence.

In light of his guilty pleas, Prosser was sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison, consisting of 10 years of custody and a three-year extended license period. He is required to serve at least two-thirds of his custodial sentence before being eligible to apply for parole, with the final decision resting with the Parole Board. Additionally, he was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will remain a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
