SOUTH SHIELDS PENSIONER FOUND GUILTY OF SEX ATTACKS
A pensioner has been found guilty of sex attacks on children dating back about 20 years.
Albert Saunders, 62, denied the allegations made by four youngsters, but a jury at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday found him guilty of seven charges of indecent assault, one of indecency with a child, and five of cruelty to a child.
He was cleared of one charge of indecent assault and one charge of cruelty to a child.
One of his alleged victims, now in his thirties, told the court how Saunders used to beat him with a belt.
He said: "He used to clip me with his belt, sometimes with his bare hands, and sometimes with his walking stick.
'I just thought it was normal to get a good hiding for doing something wrong.' Saunder’s address was given as Heaton Gardens, South Shields.
The court remanded him in custody, and he will be sentenced after the preparation of reports.
