ALBERT BREMNER FROM KEITH, MORAY, SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS IN PRISON IN ABERDEEN
In May 2021, Albert Bremner, a 58-year-old man from Keith, Moray, was sentenced to a further 17 years in prison for serious sexual offenses.A judge described him as a "predatory paedophile" and imposed a lifelong restriction order in 2009 for abusing two young girls.
The recent case involved Bremner targeting victims across Aberdeenshire and Moray between 1993 and 2005.
Bremner denied the 11 counts of rape and sexual assault brought against him, but a jury convicted him unanimously.
The High Court in Aberdeen heard that the victims—five girls aged between six and 14—were groomed through offers of sweets and cigarettes.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lady Poole stated: "You are a predatory paedophile and the abuse you subjected your victims to was of the most serious nature – you carried out a series of depraved acts on them.
"After hearing your victims give evidence in court it is clear that what you did to them has had a profound and lasting impact on them.
They are to be commended for giving evidence in court against you." She further remarked: "You show no remorse for your actions and you have deeply troubling attitudes ingrained deeply within you.
This level of wickedness can only lead to a prison sentence.
The sexual abuse of children is abhorrent and will not be tolerated by society.
The sentence of the court will be one of 17 years." Additionally, in August 2009, Bremner, then 46, was jailed for at least five years after police found a collection of indecent photographs depicting two girls he had abused.
The images, showing the girls naked, were discovered during a search of his former home in Keith.
Bremner had used cigarettes and money to lure the girls, then persuaded them to pose for photographs during offences committed between April 2004 and November 2007.
He also attempted to rape one girl when she was 12, but stopped after she cried and threatened to tell her mother.
He assaulted another girl aged 15, pushing her onto a bed and trying to carry out a sex act, but fled when the girl pleaded for him to stop.
Bremner, a father of four who later moved to Darwen, Lancashire, pleaded guilty to charges of assault with intent to rape, indecency offences, and taking indecent images.
During a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Menzies emphasized the seriousness of the offences, saying: "The offences which you have pled guilty to are not only serious, but must have caused considerable distress to the victims.
The effects of your actions one can only speculate about in relation to the victims." The judge explained that based on reports about Bremner, it was appropriate to impose an Order for Lifelong Restriction, which is used in the most severe cases of violent and sexual crimes, meaning Bremner could potentially remain in prison for life.
He ordered that Bremner serve five years in prison before being eligible to apply for parole, with his release only possible if approved by the Parole Board.
