ALBERT ADDERLEY FROM NEWTON AYCLIFFE AND STOCKTON BLOCKED FROM CONTACT WITH CHILDREN AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CONVICTION
In January 2012, Albert Adderley, a college tutor with ties to Newton Aycliffe and Stockton, faced a significant legal setback after his attempt to overturn a court order banning him from having any contact with children was denied.Adderley, a father of two, had previously been sentenced to 12 months in prison in August of the previous year following a jury conviction related to the possession and creation of indecent images of minors.
Adderley, aged 56 at the time, was found guilty of 16 counts of making indecent images of children, along with one count of possessing such photographs.
These offenses occurred during his employment as an electrical instructor at South West Durham Training Limited, located in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
The images and video clips in question were viewed by him in 2006 and 2007, during which time he was actively working at the training center.
Following his employment at Newton Aycliffe, Adderley moved on to lecture at Darlington College, further extending his professional career in the region.
During his trial, he attempted to shift blame onto students aged between 16 and 18, claiming that they had sabotaged his laptop and accessed inappropriate websites while he was away from his desk.
Despite his explanations, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him.
Adderley's efforts to have the Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him indefinitely from contacting children under the age of 16, lifted, were presented via a video link from Doncaster Prison, where he was serving his sentence.
The court, however, refused his application, emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses and the potential risk he posed.
Prosecutor Ian Mullarkey provided additional details, revealing that Adderley had engaged in online conversations under the alias 'Sally,' purportedly a five-year-old girl, in chats about child abuse with a known paedophile.
The court was told that Adderley blamed his students for the creation of this account, claiming that the username 'Sally' was actually the name of his dog.
Mullarkey also disclosed that Adderley was arrested in February 2009 after a 16-year-old girl reported that he had used sexual language towards her online.
She further alleged that he asked her to wear a short skirt to college so he could see her legs, and that he had touched her leg during their interaction.
The presiding judge, Recorder Julian Goose, reviewed the evidence and noted that the chat logs contained discussions of indecent sexual behavior involving both adults and children.
He expressed concern about the potential danger posed by Adderley's actions, stating, “I am satisfied that there is a real risk of harm to young female children.” As a result, the court upheld the existing ban, preventing Adderley from having contact with minors, and his appeal was dismissed, leaving the restrictions firmly in place.
