LONDON POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER DRINKING SESSION
A police officer, PC Alan Paull aged 41, was sentenced to five years in prison for raping a young woman after a drinking session.
Paull claimed that the 27-year-old victim had consented, but the jury found him guilty.
He was acquitted of a second serious sex act.
The incident took place after the woman passed out from alcohol at an officer's flat.
He helped move her from the room of the flat owner, then secretly approached her while she was lying on an airbed, as the court was told.Prosecutor Mark Heywood stated that Paull took "wicked advantage" of her inability to resist, knowing her state.
The court heard that Paull, from Luton, had spent the afternoon and evening drinking with friends in a North London pub.
The victim had been flirting with several men before the attack.
Paull has been suspended from the Metropolitan Police, where he served for 16 years.
The judge remarked that it is "always sad when somebody who has upheld the law falls from grace," emphasizing the seriousness of the offense.
