ALAN OGDEN FROM CHORLEY SENTENCED FOR HISTORICAL SEX OFFENCES IN PRESTON
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention, Alan Ogden, a pensioner residing in Chorley, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence following his conviction on multiple historical sex offences. The sentencing took place at Preston Crown Court on Friday, April 5, and marks the culmination of a detailed investigation into allegations spanning several years.Ogden, aged 73 and living on Queensway in Chorley, was arrested in April 2017 after authorities received a formal complaint involving allegations of rape. The complaint detailed that Ogden had committed acts of sexual abuse against a young girl, who was only six years old at the time. The abuse was reported to have occurred at various locations across the North West region, specifically in Darwen, Blackburn, and Chorley, during the period from June 2004 to August 2005.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Ogden initially denied any involvement, asserting his innocence when questioned by police. However, after a thorough investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, he was formally charged with multiple counts related to the abuse. Ogden maintained his innocence throughout the process, pleading not guilty to all charges.
The case proceeded to trial in February, during which the evidence presented led to Ogden's conviction. The court found him guilty of two counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault on a child under the age of 13. The verdict reflects the gravity of the offences and the impact on the young victim.
Following the conviction, the judge sentenced Ogden to a total of 12 years and six months in prison. The sentence underscores the severity with which the court views such offences, especially those involving vulnerable children. Ogden's case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring offenders to justice in the North West region.
