GLASGOW MAN ALAN MCCORMICK JAILED FOR ONLINE SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING FAKE SCHOOLGIRLS
In August 2022, a disturbing case unfolded involving Alan McCormick, a 52-year-old man from Glasgow, who was convicted of engaging in highly inappropriate and illegal online communications with individuals he believed to be underage girls.The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the offenses and the methods used by law enforcement to apprehend him.
McCormick’s actions came to light after he engaged in explicit online chats with what he thought were three young schoolgirls.
In reality, these were decoys operated by paedophile hunter groups based in Edinburgh, namely Groom Resistors Scotland, Decoy Scotland, and Justice For The Innocent.
These groups had set up fake profiles to lure potential offenders and gather evidence against them.
According to court reports, McCormick was caught sending explicit images and videos of his genitalia, which he described as “tiny,” to what he believed were three minors.
He also sent videos of himself urinating into a toilet and performing solo sexual acts.
The police investigation revealed that McCormick had been in contact with these decoys between July and September 2018.
His communications included disturbing claims about his own body, including a statement that his penis had shrunk to under 1.5 inches, which he insisted was the size of a 12-year-old boy’s.
Further evidence showed that McCormick, who resides in the Newlands area of Glasgow, had asked the decoys to send him explicit images of their bodies.
He also made lewd comments, encouraging one of the decoys, who he believed was a 12-year-old girl named Maddie from Aberdeen, to masturbate and sent her messages asking her to email him.
The chats escalated to WhatsApp, where he continued to send indecent images and explicit messages.
In addition to his interactions with the supposed 12-year-old, McCormick contacted another decoy, who was an adult posing as a 13-year-old named Connie, from Decoy Central.
He sent her multiple images of his penis, both flaccid and erect, along with videos of masturbation and the recording of him urinating.
His contact with a third decoy, believed to be a 12-year-old girl named Chelsea from Justice for the Innocent, involved similar explicit content, including videos and photographs of his genitals.
The police’s sting operation culminated in McCormick being lured to a meeting in Glasgow, where a decoy pretending to be a 22-year-old woman interested in dating him arranged to meet him in September 2018.
The groups live-streamed the encounter on Facebook to thousands of viewers, capturing McCormick’s arrival and subsequent arrest.
The police were alerted during the event, leading to his immediate detention.
During the court proceedings at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Prosecutor Ross Price detailed the extent of McCormick’s misconduct.
The court was informed that McCormick had pleaded guilty to three charges of sending indecent messages and images to individuals he believed to be minors.
Sheriff Daniel Kelly, presiding over the case, announced that he would adjourn the proceedings to allow for a social work report, citing concerns about further offending.
McCormick, who has been on bail until this point, was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
In his sentencing remarks, Sheriff Kelly emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, which involved the exploitation of minors and the use of online platforms to commit sexual crimes.
McCormick was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register, and the court deferred the final sentencing to later in the month, ensuring that appropriate measures would be taken to monitor and manage his risk of reoffending.
