ALAN LEE FROM GLASGOW CAUGHT AFTER CONFESSING TO RAPE WHILE SHE SLEPT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Alan Lee, a 36-year-old man from Glasgow, was brought to justice after a woman he assaulted recorded his confession and took steps to expose him.The incident, which spanned several years, came to light when the victim, who had known Lee since her teenage years, decided to confront him after discovering a photograph he had taken of her during the assault.
According to court reports, the woman was initially hesitant to report the crime, feeling too frightened and unsure of what had happened.
She had been manipulated by Lee, who was 12 years her senior, and had believed him to be a 'cool' person.
It was only after a friend encouraged her to speak out that she decided to take action.
The victim explained that she did not intend to go to the police initially, and her recording was made not out of vindictiveness but as a means of self-protection, should her evidence be needed later.
The court heard that the assault took place at an address in Barrhead, with additional incidents occurring at Lee’s flat in Glasgow.
The woman revealed that the targeted attacks happened over a period from 2010 to 2017.
She admitted that after the first assault, she did not fully realize that what had happened was wrong, which contributed to her initial silence.
She also conducted internet searches to understand whether her experience was illegal, indicating her confusion and distress at the time.
Prosecutor Shanti Maguire detailed how the victim was motivated to confront Lee after discovering a compromising photo of herself that he apparently possessed.
This led her to record a confrontation with him, during which Lee was heard admitting to the assault, saying, “Yes, I know that now.” The victim also shared that she felt “dirty, used and horrible” after the attacks, and although she challenged Lee at one point, she did not pursue further legal action at that time.
The case came to trial at the High Court in Glasgow, where Lee was charged and found guilty of rape.
The court heard that the victim’s bravery in recording Lee’s confession played a crucial role in securing his conviction.
Following the verdict, Lee was remanded in custody, and the court deferred sentencing to allow for reports to be prepared.
The judge, Lord Arthurson, indicated that Lee faces a lengthy prison sentence when he is sentenced next month, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and the importance of justice for the victim.
