Longsight Rapist
In a case that has shocked the local community, Alan Jenkins, a man with a troubling history of offenses against young girls, has been handed a substantial prison sentence of ten and a half years. The sentencing took place at Bolton Crown Court, where Jenkins, who resides in Longsight, was found guilty of multiple serious charges related to the sexual abuse of a young girl.

According to court proceedings, Jenkins had established a disturbing pattern of grooming and exploiting a young girl, whom he befriended and took on various outings to locations such as Blackpool and Smithills. The girl, who was between the ages of 11 and 14 at the time, was subjected to a series of abusive acts by Jenkins during these trips. Prosecutor Jonathan Dickinson detailed how Jenkins used these outings as opportunities to indecently assault the girl, culminating in a horrifying incident where he raped her inside his vehicle.

The abuse only came to light when the victim, now aged 22, decided to report the incidents to the police in July of the previous year. This revelation prompted a thorough investigation, leading to Jenkins’s arrest and subsequent charges. Jenkins, aged 61, pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault, one count of rape, and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

Further background revealed that Jenkins has a long-standing history of similar offenses. Court records showed previous convictions for indecent exposure to teenage girls. Notably, in September 2006, Jenkins received a three-year community sentence after being convicted of taking a child without lawful authority. During that period, he had befriended a 12-year-old girl and her friends, taking them swimming and to the cinema, even paying them to keep quiet about his activities.

Defending Jenkins, solicitor Farrhat Arshad, acknowledged that the recent offenses predated his 2006 sentence and the subsequent sex offenders’ program he completed. She emphasized that Jenkins now recognizes the gravity of his actions and feels profound shame and guilt. She stated, “He looks back on what he did with a great deal of shame and guilt.”

Judge Steven Everett delivered the sentence, which included ten and a half years of imprisonment. Additionally, Jenkins was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subject to a lifetime restraining order. This order prohibits him from contacting the victim or any individual under 16 unless a parent or guardian is present, especially in vehicles or premises where minors are present. The case underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and highlights the serious consequences faced by those who exploit them.
