ALAN HALL, COVENTRY BUILDER, SENTENCED FOR GROOMING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN COVENTRY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Coventry community, Alan Hall, a local builder residing on Southam Close in the Canley area, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in a series of grooming activities targeting a 14-year-old girl.The incident, which took place over a period of time, involved Hall repeatedly luring the young girl into his works van as she was walking to school, with the intent of engaging her in sexual acts.
According to reports, Hall, who was 27 years old at the time, began his inappropriate interactions with the girl by casting flirtatious glances and offering compliments as he cycled past her on the street.
His behavior escalated in December 2013 when he pulled up alongside her in his vehicle, a moment that marked a significant turning point in the case.
Hall then offered her a lift, which she accepted, and he parked near some garages before kissing her.
This initial contact was followed by further meetings in his van, during which he incited her to perform sexual acts, a clear indication of his predatory intentions.
The case came to light when a concerned teacher noticed the girl getting into a vehicle driven by an older man and promptly contacted her parents on December 6.
The teacher’s report prompted an investigation by Coventry police.
Detectives traced the vehicle to a local building firm, leading to the arrest of Alan Hall later that evening at his home address.
During questioning, Hall admitted to giving the girl lifts but denied any sexual motives.
However, investigators found evidence to contradict his claims when they examined a tracker device fitted to his van, which revealed discrepancies in the route he had described.
Following a trial, a jury found Hall guilty of five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
The verdict was delivered last month, and on Friday, March 13, Hall was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
In addition to his imprisonment, he was ordered to sign the sex offender’s register for a minimum of ten years.
Furthermore, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was imposed, restricting him from residing at the same address or having unsupervised contact with girls under the age of 16.
Jon Barker, an officer from Coventry Police’s Public Protection Unit, provided a statement emphasizing the nature of Hall’s behavior.
He explained, “Hall began by casting glances at the girl followed by comments like ‘morning gorgeous’ and then stopping to chat – he was grooming her and she admitted being flattered by the attention.
It was predatory behavior and, although there was no duress or aggravating factors, he knew the girl’s age and was fully aware he was committing an offence.” Police officials continue to urge parents and guardians to reinforce personal safety messages with their children, emphasizing the importance of never getting into vehicles with strangers to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
