ALAN CUNNINGHAM'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MANCHESTER: CHILD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS
Alan Cunningham, born on August 1, 1961, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving a young girl in Manchester. In June 2023, Cunningham pleaded guilty to four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13, as well as possessing indecent photographs and pseudo-photographs of a child.
These disturbing charges highlight the severity of his actions and the ongoing threat he posed to vulnerable minors.
Today, on Friday, October 4, 2024, Cunningham was formally ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely at Liverpool Crown Court.
This legal requirement ensures that authorities are kept informed of his whereabouts and activities, given the gravity of his offenses.
Cunningham was already serving a three-year prison sentence for other child sex offenses, which underscores a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned several years.
The criminal case revealed that Cunningham's abuse began in May 2019, when he started sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.
During this period, he coerced her into sending him indecent photographs of herself, further exploiting her innocence and trust.
His abusive conduct persisted until March 2023, when the victim’s mother noticed suspicious and inappropriate text messages from Cunningham directed at her daughter.
These messages included disturbing comments such as “Where are my kisses at the end of messages” and “you could have took me to the bath too,” which indicated a continued attempt to manipulate and groom the young girl.
Investigators examined the electronic devices seized from Cunningham and discovered a number of Category C images, which are classified as indecent images of children.
The evidence also revealed that Cunningham had requested the victim to send nude photographs in exchange for money, a clear indication of his predatory and exploitative behavior.
The investigation was led by the Wigan Complex Safeguarding Team, with Detective Sergeant Vicki Flemming playing a key role in bringing Cunningham to justice.
As a result of the thorough investigation and the guilty plea, Cunningham has been sentenced to an additional 15 years in prison.
Furthermore, he will serve four more years on extended licence, ensuring strict supervision upon his release.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals from sexual exploitation and abuse in Manchester and beyond.
