ALAN CARR, NISSAN WORKER FROM CRAMLINGTON, ESCAPES PRISON DESPITE CHILD INDECENT IMAGE OFFENSES
In June 2021, Alan Carr, a Nissan employee from Cramlington in Northumberland, was found with over 50,000 indecent images of children but was ultimately spared imprisonment.Carr, who previously faced a conviction for 15 offences related to indecent images in 2006, was caught again when police searched his computer.
Newcastle Crown Court heard that officers executed a search warrant at Carr’s home in Cramlington in November 2019.
During the search, Carr admitted to his activities.
The police uncovered 22 images classified as the most serious, Category A, along with 155 Category B images and a staggering 52,634 Category C images.
The authorities did not categorize all images on his hard drive, citing the process would have been too time-consuming.
Most of the children depicted were aged between six and 12, with the offences occurring between 2011 and 2019.
Carr pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and attend rehabilitation programs.
Additionally, Carr is required to sign the sex offenders register and will be subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
Judge Penny Moreland addressed Carr directly, stating: “When you look at a photograph of, for example, a girl of six being forced to perform oral sex on an adult man, you should acknowledge it’s not there for your delectation.
A child has been sexually abused.
There are more than 52,000 indecent images.
52,000 children who have been pictured so you can look at them in your spare bedroom because you don’t feel very good about yourself.
They are pictures of real children and you need to take that on board.” The judge noted that, considering Carr’s previous conviction, a prison sentence might have been appropriate.
However, because he maintains a good job at Nissan and is in a supportive relationship, the court believes his prospects for rehabilitation are promising.
