Doncaster Rapist
In a series of disturbing criminal cases that have shocked the community of Doncaster, Alan Barnfield has been at the center of multiple heinous allegations involving animal abuse and possession of extremely disturbing material. The sequence of events began with Barnfield, a 45-year-old man residing on Hexthorpe Lane, who was initially accused of engaging in sexual acts with a Shetland pony named Sky at Oak Tree Stables on Rakes Lane, Loversall, Doncaster.

Although Barnfield was acquitted of having sexual intercourse with Sky, the jury found him guilty of outraging public decency in connection with the incident. The court heard that Sky had suffered significant trauma, with injuries indicating she had been sexually assaulted. The owner of Sky, Jodie Walton, provided a heartfelt victim impact statement, describing how her beloved pony’s behavior changed drastically after the attack. Sky became nervous, trembled, and avoided the area, prompting Walton to give her to a friend to help her recover, a decision that was deeply upsetting for Walton and her young son.

Judge Peter Kelson QC condemned Barnfield’s actions as utterly disgusting, emphasizing the profound harm inflicted on Sky. The judge highlighted that Barnfield’s behavior had caused the pony considerable pain and changed her personality permanently. The court also noted that Barnfield had lied during the trial, further demonstrating his lack of remorse.

In addition to the animal abuse case, Barnfield’s criminal record expanded to include possession of a vast collection of indecent images and videos, some involving children and animals. Police discovered over 47,000 indecent images and approximately 1,400 pornographic videos on an external hard drive found in Barnfield’s flat on Hexthorpe Lane. While most of the material was legal, some content was classified as more serious, including videos depicting sexual acts involving a Great Dane and horses. The discovery was made following reports that Barnfield had engaged in sexual activity with Sky, which led to a police search of his residence.

Further investigations revealed a disturbing ‘snuff’ film, which depicted a violent rape and murder of a young woman by her father. This film bore chilling similarities to a rape and murder Barnfield had committed in 2001, involving strangulation. Sheffield Crown Court sentenced Barnfield to an additional seven years in prison for possessing this ‘deeply disturbing’ material. Judge Kelson described the video as deeply unsettling, noting its similarities to Barnfield’s previous crimes, including his conviction for raping a 16-year-old girl and strangling her with her own clothing.

As part of his sentencing, Barnfield was also issued a sexual harm prevention order, restricting his internet use unless his browsing history is made available to authorities. He is prohibited from having any contact with children under the age of 16. His criminal activities and possession of such material underscore the dangerous nature of his offenses, which have left a lasting impact on the victims involved and the community at large.
