ALALA KESAHIT AND HIS SHOCKING 20-YEAR SENTENCE IN OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGESHIRE
An individual described as an 'extremely dangerous' sexual offender has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a harrowing eight-year period during which he terrorized two young children.Alala Kesahit, a resident of Oxford, was handed a 20-year prison sentence following a comprehensive police investigation into his series of crimes that spanned across the counties of Cambridgeshire and Oxfordshire.
For nearly a decade, Kesahit engaged in a pattern of heinous abuse and assault against two children who were under the age of 16 at the time.
The severity of his actions extended beyond sexual offenses, as he also subjected a woman to physical violence, resulting in visible injuries including bruising to her face and a cut lip, which occurred in 2017.
These disturbing incidents, some of which are considered historic, only came to light when the victims decided to come forward and report their experiences.
The reports were formally made to Thames Valley Police on September 28, 2022.
Following this, authorities acted swiftly, and Kesahit was arrested the very next day.
The legal process moved forward rapidly, and he was formally charged on September 30, 2022.
Detective Constable Sophie Holliss, who was involved in the case, expressed her appreciation for the bravery shown by the victims.
She stated, “These offences came to light thanks to the huge amount of bravery from Kesahit's victims to stand up to his offending behaviour.
That they came forward to report these horrific crimes displayed tremendous courage, and I would like to personally thank them for putting their trust in the police to keep them safe and seek justice for them.” Kesahit, aged 31 at the time of his sentencing, pleaded guilty to a total of 14 separate charges during two court hearings held at Oxford Crown Court.
On December 21, 2022, he admitted to five counts of child rape, eight counts of sexual assault by penetration, one count of sexual assault by touching, and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Subsequently, on January 13, 2023, he also pleaded guilty to an additional offence.
The Crown Prosecution Service accepted his pleas, and the case moved toward sentencing.
While he admitted to numerous charges, seven other counts remained not guilty and are recorded as such on file.
The court, recognizing the gravity of his crimes, sentenced Kesahit to 20 years in prison, with an additional four years on license, bringing the total potential period of detention and supervision to 24 years.
The sentence was handed down at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, April 27.
In addition to his prison term, Kesahit is required to register as a sex offender for life.
He was also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a lifelong restraining order to prevent any contact with his victims.
Detective Constable Holliss emphasized the seriousness of Kesahit's dangerousness, stating, “Kesahit is an extremely dangerous offender and the sentence reflects this dangerousness.
I hope that the lengthy prison sentence he has been given provides the victims with some closure and the ability to move forward with their lives in the knowledge that they are now protected from him.” She further added, “I hope that this sentence demonstrates to the wider public that the police will take reports of this nature seriously, regardless of how much time has passed, and that victims will be listened to and supported.”
