AL FROM MANCHESTER CAUGHT IN CHILD GROOMING STING AND TO BE DEPORTED
In a disturbing case that highlights ongoing concerns about online child exploitation, Al, an illegal immigrant residing in Manchester, was caught in a sting operation after attempting to meet what he believed was a 12-year-old girl.The incident took place in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, where vigilant members of a paedophile-hunting group confronted him before police intervened.
Al, whose full name is Al-Imran Ali, aged 34, was seen clutching a hamburger from Burger King and carrying a condom as he approached the meeting point.
He had been grooming a young girl online, urging her not to wear underwear when they planned to meet.
However, the girl, named Nicola, was a fictitious persona created by the vigilantes, and in reality, Ali was speaking to an undercover member of the group, Ms.
Wright.
Throughout the online exchanges, Ali believed he was communicating with a 12-year-old girl from Lancashire.
The conversations became increasingly sexualized, with Ali promoting explicit topics, including oral sex, and arranging a meeting at Salford Quays.
He arrived at the designated location with the intention of meeting Nicola, carrying a condom and a Burger King meal, indicating his intent.
During the encounter, Ali was approached by Ms.
Wright and another woman, Lindsey Stubbly, who had been part of the operation.
They detained him until police arrived and subsequently arrested him.
The police investigation revealed that Ali had been in the UK illegally for seven years, having arrived from Pakistan in 2010 on a student visa to study computer science.
Despite his illegal status, he had remained in the country without detection by Home Office or Border Control officials.
At Manchester Crown Court, Ali pleaded guilty to charges of arranging to meet a child for sexual purposes and grooming.
He was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
The judge, Anthony Cross QC, made it clear that Ali’s actions demonstrated a clear sexual interest in children, stating, “You made contact with a person you believed to be a 12-year-old girl.
She was entirely fictitious.
You arranged to meet and requested her not to wear underwear and had a condom.
Quite obviously you have a sexual interest in young children.” Following his imprisonment, Ali is set to be deported from the United Kingdom.
The case underscores the persistent dangers posed by online grooming and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community groups working together to protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
