MAN JAILED FOR SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULTS AGAINST TWO WOMEN
Akib Aslam, aged 32, targeted two women who cannot be identified for legal reasons at residences in Falkirk between November 2022 and March 2023.During a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, it was revealed that Aslam sexually assaulted his first victim at some point from November 1 to November 30, 2022.
The court was told that the woman was asleep and intoxicated at the time, rendering her unable to give consent for Aslam to kiss her or to touch her private areas.
A jury heard that, in the same month, Aslam raped the same woman again while she was unconscious and incapable of consenting to sex.
Additionally, the court learned that between January and March 2023, Aslam committed multiple rapes and sexual assaults on another woman in different locations around Falkirk.
Aslam was ultimately apprehended and brought to justice after both victims felt brave enough to report the offenses to police.
Law enforcement officials collected sufficient evidence leading to his conviction following a trial at the high court last year.
Judge Alison Stirling postponed sentencing to allow reports on his character.
On Thursday, Judge Stirling, of Larbert, sentenced Aslam to prison for his serious offenses.
The judge also noted his prior conviction from 2016.
She said: “In these particular circumstances, the only appropriate disposal is imprisonment due to the very serious nature of these offences.” Aslam was previously given a jail term of five years and eight months in April 2016 after pleading guilty to assaulting a man to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment in Tweed Street, Grangemouth in October 2014.
The high court heard how Akib Aslam - then aged 22 - deliberately drove at and struck a man before swerving violently to throw him off the bonnet.
The victim was so badly hurt, he was unable to walk for four months.
On Thursday, defence advocate Patricia Baillie told judge Stirling that her client maintained he was innocent of any wrongdoing.
Judge Stirling told Aslam that he’d also be supervised by the authorities for three years following his release from custody.
