AHMED PATEL CAUGHT IN CHILD SEX TRAP IN GLOUCESTER - YOUTH WORKER NEARLY JAILED
In June 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Ahmed Patel, a 49-year-old youth centre worker from Gloucester, who narrowly escaped imprisonment after being caught in a child sex trap set by vigilant paedophile hunters.The incident highlights the dangers lurking on online platforms and the serious consequences of engaging in inappropriate communications.
According to court proceedings held last Friday at Gloucester Crown Court, Patel was deceived by a group of paedophile hunters who posed as underage girls on popular adult dating websites.
These groups, operating under the aliases ‘Guardian Angels,’ ‘Hidden Web,’ and ‘Net Justice,’ created fake profiles of young girls to lure potential offenders.
It was during this sting operation that Patel, of Arthur Street, Gloucester, took the bait and initiated contact.
Evidence presented in court revealed that Patel exchanged sexually explicit messages with the decoys.
The groups used false female identities and pretended to be minors aged 12, 13, and 14.
The communication between Patel and the decoys was reportedly initiated between January and April of the same year.
The messages started off in a seemingly innocent manner but quickly escalated into explicit sexual content, raising serious concerns about his intentions.
Following the exchanges, the decoy groups contacted the police, leading to Patel’s arrest at the youth centre in Cheltenham where he was employed.
As a result of his arrest, Patel lost his job and faced criminal charges.
During an earlier hearing, Patel admitted to communicating sexually with what he believed to be underage girls, which he thought were 12, 13, and 14 years old.
In court, Prosecutor George Threlfell described the nature of the messages, stating, “The messages started off conservatively but they soon degenerated and became sexually explicit.
In police interviews, he claimed he thought he was speaking to adults and considered it ‘just a bit of harmless fun.’” Judge Thomas Brown Brown addressed Patel directly, acknowledging that there was no planned meeting and that Patel was deeply ashamed of his actions.
The judge emphasized that no actual children were involved, but expressed disappointment in Patel’s behaviour.
“It is very sad that you engaged in this activity – you believed in their young age and sent them messages which began in a light form and then became extremely explicit,” the judge remarked.
Following the sentencing, Patel expressed remorse, stating, “This has been a nightmare.
I have lost my job, I have lost everything because of doing something so stupid.
I have felt suicidal.” His case underscores the importance of vigilance and the potential consequences of online misconduct, especially involving minors and the serious legal repercussions that follow such actions.
