KIRKCALDY BUSINESSMAN STALKED TEENAGER WHILE WIFE FOUGHT CANCER AT HOME
Aftab Mohammed, aged 51, was found to have engaged in a lengthy campaign of stalking a teenage girl in Kirkcaldy, while his wife was battling multiple cancers at home.He admitted to an amended charge of stalking both at her home and at Alfie's Chippy on Strathkinnes Road.
The court heard Mohammed told the girl she should view him as a father figure.
After she attempted to block him on social media, she discovered her car tyres had been punctured, leading her to install CCTV at her home.
Footage revealed Mohammed attending her home in August last year, making stabbing motions towards her tyres.
On another occasion in June, he knocked on her door and expressed a desire to see her bedroom.
Mohammed admitted to a course of conduct between December 2022 and August 2023 that caused her fear and alarm, including sending her money, uninvited visits, demanding to see her in her bedroom, messaging her repeatedly, slashing her car tyres, threatening self-harm, and blaming her for his actions.
The court's solicitor noted a breach of trust due to a money-lending agreement and highlighted Mohammed’s low mental state, his work schedule, and his wife’s critical health.
The sheriff imposed a year's supervision, a two-year non-harassment order, and ordered him to pay £200 compensation for the tyre damage.
