ADRIAN FITZGERALD SHOCKS WEYMOUTH WITH EXPOSED BEHAVIOR IN PARK AND SHOP
In a disturbing series of incidents in Weymouth, Adrian William Fitzgerald, aged 49, was convicted and sentenced for two separate offences of public exposure that shocked the local community and prompted a swift legal response.The first incident occurred on the afternoon of January 29 in Radipole Park Gardens, a popular recreational area in Weymouth.
Carolyn Branford-Wood, the prosecutor, detailed how a 33-year-old woman was teaching her four-year-old son how to ride a bicycle when she noticed a man standing near some bushes close to the Jubilee Business Park area.
The man, later identified as Fitzgerald, was described as wearing a long coat.
According to the prosecutor, Fitzgerald approached the woman and her son, walking towards them with apparent intent.
As he drew nearer, he undid his trousers and proceeded to expose himself in a shocking display of indecency.
The mother reacted swiftly, pushing her son away to protect him and immediately contacting the police to report the incident.
The following day, Fitzgerald's inappropriate behavior continued in a different setting.
A volunteer working in a shop located in Weymouth town centre was alone in a changing booth trying on trousers when Fitzgerald approached her.
The volunteer, who was in her late 60s, was asked by Fitzgerald if she could pass him a pair of trousers.
She complied, passing the garment to him before turning her back to continue her work.
However, she soon turned back to find Fitzgerald exposing himself once again, this time with the shop’s curtains open, in full view of the staff and other customers.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the woman promptly alerted the shop manager.
As they returned to the changing area, they observed Fitzgerald leaving the store.
The shop manager then contacted the police, leading to Fitzgerald’s arrest later that day.
Fitzgerald was detained on Dorchester Road, and during police interviews, he revealed that he had traveled from Blackpool to Weymouth several days prior to these incidents.
His arrest and subsequent court proceedings culminated in a sentencing that reflects the gravity of his actions.
Judge Roger Jarvis sentenced Fitzgerald to 18 months in prison.
Additionally, Fitzgerald was placed under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which will remain in effect until further notice, and he was registered on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of ten years, underscoring the serious nature of his offences and the community’s need for protection.
