ADETUNJI AKONA-DOSUNMO AND HIS SHOCKING PREDATORY ACTS IN MANCHESTER AND MERSEYSIDE

A serious and disturbing case of sexual predation has resulted in the imprisonment of Adetunji Akona-Dosunmo, a 35-year-old man who targeted young girls on buses by passing them his phone number in an attempt to engage them in sexual activity.

The offender’s actions, which spanned multiple locations including Manchester and Merseyside, have garnered significant attention from law enforcement and the community alike.

Akona-Dosunmo was officially sentenced to two years and four months behind bars at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday, May 9.

This sentencing followed a detailed investigation conducted by Merseyside Police, which uncovered a series of sexually motivated offences committed by him during February and March of the previous year.

The police alleged that Akona-Dosunmo had been involved in multiple incidents across Merseyside and Manchester, choosing to travel by bus and target schoolgirls, often dressed in school uniforms, with the malicious intent of establishing sexual contact.

According to law enforcement sources, the defendant would pass his telephone number to underage girls during bus rides, with the deliberate aim of initiating sexual communication.

In one notable case, a young girl aged only 11 from Crosby was specifically targeted, highlighting the grave risk Akona-Dosunmo posed to children and the seriousness of his misconduct.

Detectives reported that he would sometimes hand out notes containing his contact details to schoolgirls, hoping they would call him and facilitate his attempts to arrange illicit encounters.

On February 6, following the culmination of the investigation, Akona-Dosunmo pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including four counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (which was already in place), two counts of sexual communication with a child, and attempting to arrange or facilitate a child sex offence.

These offences revealed a pattern of predatory behavior focused on young victims, with authorities emphasizing the danger he represented.

Detective Constable Rachael Barcas, who led the inquiry, expressed her relief at the sentence, stating, “We welcome this sentence given to Akona-Dosunmo as he is now behind bars and can no longer cause harm to children with his predatory offending.” She further explained the tactics used by the offender, which involved traveling on buses and approaching schoolchildren dressed in uniforms, often handing them notes with his telephone number and asking them to call him, a clear indication of his intent.

The judge’s comments during sentencing underscored the severity of the threat posed by Akona-Dosunmo.

It was noted that he presents a significant risk of reoffending due to his strong sexual urges and the calculated efforts he made to contact underage girls for sexual purposes.

Merseyside Police reaffirmed their dedication to protecting victims and emphasized that anyone reporting an incident can expect support and safeguarding from specially trained officers and sexual violence advocates throughout the investigation process.

Detective Inspector Alan Nuttall highlighted the collaborative effort involved in this case, mentioning the coordination with Greater Manchester Police to bring the offender to justice.

In expressing gratitude to the young victims who came forward, Inspector Nuttall commended their courage and provided reassurance that the force’s specialist officers are committed to investigating such cases diligently, ensuring perpetrators are prosecuted, and safeguarding children from further harm.

He also made a plea to the community, urging anyone with information about sexual abuse or exploitation to report it without fear, emphasizing that all reports are taken seriously and handled with sensitivity and compassion by trained personnel.

Akona-Dosunmo, who has no fixed address but was previously associated with Salford, was also subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, further restricting his ability to pose a threat to young people in the future.
