ADEM MOHAMMED AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT NEAR SWANSEA FLATS

A distressing incident unfolded in Swansea when Adem Mohammed, a man with no fixed address, committed a serious sexual assault on a young woman after following her from the street to her residence.

The victim, only 20 years old, encountered Mohammed on a public street, where he engaged her in conversation as if they knew each other.

His approach initially appeared casual, but it soon took a disturbing turn.

After their brief interaction, Mohammed persisted in his pursuit by following the woman as she headed towards her flat in Swansea.

During this ordeal, he prevented her from closing the external door of her block of flats by holding it open, thereby gaining entry into the building.

Once inside her premises, Mohammed's actions became increasingly invasive; he forcibly kissed her without consent, embraced her, and grabbed her buttocks, all against her will.

The young woman, overwhelmed and frightened, eventually managed to break free from his grasp when she experienced a panic attack.

The victim was deeply shaken by the assault.

Concerned not only for her own safety but also for the safety of other residents in her building, she quickly informed her neighbors of what had transpired through a WhatsApp message before contacting the police.

Her quick thinking helped initiate an investigation into the incident.

According to the prosecution, represented by Carina Hughes, the young woman chose not to provide a victim impact statement for the court’s consideration, but her actions demonstrated her genuine concern for the community.

Law enforcement officials swiftly responded to the incident.

Investigators recovered CCTV footage from the area, which corroborated the victim’s account.

The footage depicted Mohammed on the street interacting with the woman prior to her assault.

It also showed him leaving the scene on a bicycle shortly after the incident.

Using this evidence, police successfully identified Mohammed as the suspect.

During police interviews, he claimed that he had been searching for his girlfriend and approached the young woman asking for assistance.

Mohammed stated that the woman had supposedly invited him back to her flat so he could access the internet, and he alleged that she had initiated kissing him—something he said he rejected.

Adem Mohammed’s criminal record includes a previous conviction for sexual assault, which had been established at a separate trial before his sentencing in this case.

During the proceedings, his defense attorney, Hilary Roberts, expressed disappointment with the conclusions of a pre-sentence report.

Roberts suggested there might have been a miscommunication due to linguistic differences, as the interpreter present used a dialect different from Mohammed’s.

The lawyer also indicated that his client had apologized for the distress caused and admitted to having made a serious mistake.

He argued that cultural factors might have influenced perceptions and behaviors, noting that Mohammed was granted refugee status in the UK in 2021.

Judge Catherine Richards presided over the case and described Mohammed’s behavior as deliberate and predatory.

She noted that he engaged the woman in conversation under false pretenses, tried to convince her they knew each other, and then forcibly entered her flat despite her clear discomfort and rejection.

The judge emphasized that the assault was opportunistic rather than premeditated.

In her sentencing remarks, Judge Richards sentenced Adem Mohammed to 21 months in a young offenders institution.

The sentence stipulates that he will serve up to half the period before being released on licence, with the remainder served in the community under supervision.

Additionally, Mohammed was deemed a registered sex offender for the next decade, reflecting the seriousness of his conduct and ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities in the future.
