MANCHESTER SEX ATTACKER SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR KNIFEPOINT ASSAULTS AND RAPES
Adam Thomson, a man from Stockport, was sentenced by Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court for a series of violent sexual offenses.Thomson was described as a "dangerous sexual predator" with "an intense hatred for women".
During a night in January 2024, he targeted four sex workers in Manchester city center, attacking them at knifepoint after luring them into secluded areas.
Specifically, he raped three women near Mancunian Way and attempted to assault a fourth.
The court heard that Thomson approached the women, all of whom were sex workers, and asked for business.
He then took them to isolated locations, brandished a knife, and demanded sex, demonstrating a violent and callous attitude without regard for the harm inflicted.
GMP investigators found a woollen hat worn by Thomson at the scene, which helped link him to the crimes.
When police arrested him at a hostel, he responded with an "almost arrogant" attitude, implying he believed he had nothing to worry about.
The judge, Hilary Manley, sentenced Thomson to life imprisonment with a minimum of 18 years before eligibility for parole.
The court also convicted him of sexual assault, threats with a bladed article, and possession of such a weapon.
The victimized women initially found it extremely difficult to trust authorities, fearing prejudice due to their status as sex workers.
Investigator Claire Simister praised their bravery in court and noted Thomson's targeting of women based on the misconception that they would not report or be believed.
The court and police highlighted Thomson's brutality and the lasting trauma caused to his victims.
