ADAM NORTH AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN KENT

Two victims of severe abuse have courageously shared the profound and lasting impact that the actions of Adam North, a man convicted of multiple heinous offences, have had on their lives.

These testimonies were delivered in the solemn setting of Canterbury Crown Court, where the emotional toll of North’s crimes was laid bare.

One of the victims described how the memory of Adam North, who was convicted of being a paedophile, continues to haunt them.

They explained that merely hearing North’s name causes a visceral reaction, with a shiver running down their spine, illustrating the deep psychological scars left by the abuse.

The other victim revealed that they struggle with daily mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), hallucinations, anxiety, and panic attacks.

They expressed a tragic wish that they were no longer alive, highlighting the devastating toll of North’s actions.

Adam North, aged 41 and residing on The Street in Willesborough, Ashford, was found guilty by a jury in June of numerous offences related to his “sexual, violent, and cruel” conduct spanning over ten years.

The court heard that North’s conduct involved molestation, performing sexual acts, and viewing extreme child pornography.

The allegations also included physical assaults and threats aimed at silencing the victims, preventing them from reporting their ordeals.

Throughout the trial and at his arrest, North maintained that the accusations were “in their heads,” asserting his innocence.

During the sentencing hearing, it was revealed that North continues to deny any wrongdoing.

Despite his protests, the court sentenced him to 18 years in prison, a decision made in the presence of his family and friends, who sat in the public gallery and supported him.

The judge, Mark Weekes, emphasized that North had been convicted based on overwhelming evidence of “perpetuating evil.” He praised the victims’ bravery in coming forward and stated that “victory was theirs,” as their resilience and dignity remained intact despite the trauma inflicted upon them.

The victims, visibly upset and fighting back tears, read out impact statements that detailed the profound and disturbing consequences of North’s abuse.

One victim recounted how they had been molested, forced to perform sexual acts, and exposed to child and extreme pornography.

They also described being physically assaulted and threatened to prevent disclosure.

The emotional scars have led to PTSD, hallucinations, and feelings of hopelessness, with one victim expressing disappointment at waking from a suicide attempt, feeling there was “no escape.” They stated, “This will be the last time I force myself to talk about what happened because the mere mention of his name sends a shiver down my spine.

I feel I lost a part of myself I will never get back.

I hope one day he will understand the pain and suffering he has caused me.

I dread the day he is released.

I hope his time in prison is punishment itself.

He will always be haunting my nightmares and causing me pain.” The second victim also shared their ongoing struggles, including a diagnosis of PTSD and a tendency toward self-destructive behavior.

They expressed a sense of despair, saying, “I don’t care what happens to me.

Sometimes I wish I wasn’t alive because every day is a struggle.

When I think about the future, I don’t think I have one.” They reiterated their feelings of dread, stating, “This will be the last time I force myself to talk about what happened because the mere mention of his name sends a shiver down my spine… I don’t think I will ever recover.

I feel like the abuse will follow me forever.” Despite North’s lack of previous convictions, the court noted the significant support he received from his partner, family, and friends, with as many as 13 character references presented during sentencing.

His defense lawyer, Toby Cadman, highlighted this support, stating that North’s loved ones would continue to stand by him regardless of the sentence.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Weekes made it clear that North’s actions had “wrecked” childhoods and left scars that last a lifetime.

He acknowledged that no punishment could undo the harm caused but emphasized the importance of acknowledging the victims’ courage.

The judge told North that he would need to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole could be considered, and that he would be subject to indefinite sex offender notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order.

The judge concluded by expressing hope that the sentencing might aid in the victims’ healing process.

He urged North to reflect on the terrible harm he had caused and to eventually accept responsibility for his actions, suggesting that remorse might someday follow.

The court’s decision underscores the gravity of North’s crimes and the enduring impact on his victims, who demonstrated remarkable bravery in confronting their past and seeking justice in Kent.
