ADAM MERCHANT FROM BARROW-IN-FURNESS JAILED FOR RAPE IN SALE PARK
In a case that has spanned over a decade and a half, Adam Merchant, a 35-year-old man from Mill Bank in Barrow-in-Furness, has been convicted of a serious sexual offence committed in Sale.The incident, which took place in the summer of 2005, involved the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Priory Gardens, a well-known public park in Sale, Greater Manchester.
Merchant was brought to justice after a lengthy investigation that was initiated in February 2020, when the incident was first reported to the police.
The authorities launched a detailed inquiry into the matter, which eventually led to his arrest and subsequent trial.
Throughout the investigation, the victim received support from specialist officers and various partner agencies dedicated to assisting victims of sexual assault.
During the trial held at Manchester Crown Court in September, the prosecution presented evidence that established Merchant’s involvement in the assault.
