June 2010 Chepstow man had indecent child pics on phone A MAN was caught with indecent pictures of children on his phone by staff at a mobile phone shop, Newport Crown Court heard yesterday. Adam Jones, 25, of Somerset Way, Chepstow, was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty in July last year to nine counts of possession of indecent photographs of children. Stephen Jeary, prosecuting said Mr Jones entered the Abergavenny branch of Carphone Warehouse on January 22 2009. There he asked staff to recharge the battery of his mobile phone and left it there with an employee. While they were charging the phone they released the screen saver depicted a 13-year-old boy partially clothed. Finding further images on the phone members of staff contacted police and Jones was arrested when he returned to the shop. In total 17 images were found on the phone, rated as between levels one and four – five being the worst kinds of images. After the defendant was arrested he accepted that the phone was his, but said it was given to him by his mother the day before. He denied to police that he was looking for the images on the internet. Judge Rhys Rowlands said the court had received a psychiatric report on Jones, and that Jones had spent 10 months as a hospital inpatient. “I have to both punish you for what you did and to try to make sure that you don’t do it again,” he said. Judge Rowlands sentenced him to a community order for three years, to be supervised for the period. Mr Jones will also be required to undergo treatment for mental health issues and will need to be resident at his parents address for 24 months. He was also disqualified from working with children and will be on the sex offenders register for five years, with a requirement not to access pornography on the internet.
