MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR HARASSMENT AND ABUSE OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man named Adam Hussey, 25, who was involved in abusive and harassing behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.Hussey had a history of making derogatory comments about his partner, pressuring her for money, and becoming verbally and physically abusive, especially when she attempted to meet her friends or go on social media.
His abusive actions were exacerbated after she left him, including harassing her by turning up outside a hospital she was attending and waiting outside her house, causing her to hide and remain silent to avoid confrontation.
He also approached her after she tried to leave her house and fought with her as she attempted to get into a taxi, threatening her and the taxi driver, and running away when neighbours intervened.
During the relationship, Hussey had made derogatory comments about her appearance and attempted to control her social interactions.
He also sent her photographs of self-harm when she wanted to end the relationship and threatened her safety repeatedly.
After they separated, he continued his harassment, turning up outside her hospital appointments and her home.
In one incident, he messaged her asking to collect his bag from a store, became irate when she declined, and sent threatening messages including "Wait until I get my hands on you." He also sent her images of self-harm and accused her of causing him pain.
His persistent stalking and threatening behaviour caused the woman to feel isolated, insecure, and afraid to leave her house or take her children to the park.
Hussey, of Newton Heath, was found guilty of engaging in controlling behaviour and harassment.
The court was told that he had accumulated eight convictions for fifteen offences, including harassment, and his mental health was noted as a factor, worsened by cannabis use.
The judge, Nicholas Dean KC, sentenced Hussey to 18 months of imprisonment and imposed a restraining order banning him from contacting his ex-girlfriend and her mother, stating, “Your behaviour towards her both during and subsequent to the relationship ending was appalling.
Your behaviour got worse and intensified, making her life a misery.”
