Aberdeen Domestic Abuser
Adam Comiskey, a 30-year-old man, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to inflicting severe physical and verbal abuse on his wife over a period of seven years. The court heard that Comiskey repeatedly threatened to kill his wife, instilled fear and alarm, and threw a cup of hot liquid at her, resulting in injury, during incidents spanning from 2016 to 2023. He also assaulted the woman during her pregnancy and physically abused two children, including punching them. The court described his behavior as "angry, aggressive," and "controlling," with the wife feeling she could not escape due to his hold over her. Specific charges detailed include assaulting his wife by kicking a vacuum cleaner while she was pregnant, pushing her onto a sofa and pinning her down, and threats to kill. Comiskey admitted to assaulting his wife and threatening her, as well as assaulting the children. His defense argued that he suffers from mental health trauma and has been undergoing therapy. The court noted the incident where he called his wife derogatory names and threw household items, as well as the assault with hot liquid. Sheriff Rory Bannerman acknowledged the seriousness of his actions but, noting that the couple remains together, sentenced him to a community payback order supervised for two years and required him to attend a domestic abuse program for the same period. The sheriff emphasized that if he backslides, the wife can seek further help, but jail was avoided due to the couple's reconciliation.
