In April 2001, a disturbing incident unfolded at RAF Lossiemouth, located in Moray, where an aircraft mechanic was implicated in a serious breach of conduct involving a minor. Adam Armstrong, aged 22, who was employed as a Tornado aircraft technician, was found to have engaged in inappropriate activities with a 14-year-old girl, raising significant concerns about safety and security at the military installation.

According to reports, Armstrong was caught smuggling the underage girl into his barracks within the high-security confines of RAF Lossiemouth. The incident came to light after he falsely claimed to security personnel that the girl in his vehicle was his sister, asserting that his intention was merely to show her around the base. Despite his attempt to deceive security guards, the truth was uncovered, leading to his immediate removal from the base and subsequent repatriation to England by the Royal Air Force.

The court proceedings revealed that Armstrong had begun a sexual relationship with the girl after she had been babysitting for a fellow RAF serviceman. The relationship reportedly involved consensual sexual activity, with the court noting that no force or coercion appeared to be involved. However, the court emphasized that Armstrong was fully aware of her age, which made the encounter illegal and morally unacceptable.

Legal action was swiftly taken against Armstrong. Sheriff James Penman, presiding over the case at Elgin, ordered that Armstrong be registered as a sex offender for a period of five years. Additionally, he was fined £2000 as part of the punishment for his misconduct.
