ADAM ALI SENTENCED IN MANCHESTER FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A convicted paedophile, Adam Ali, 35, who believed he was communicating with teenage girls via online chats, was actually engaging with undercover police officers.Ali claimed he thought he was in 'roleplay' with adult women, believing they were teenagers named 'Becky' and 'Noemi'.
However, the police revealed that he was involved in sexualised conversations with officers posing as minors, and they used his messages as evidence for prosecution.
Ali, from Doric Close in Beswick, admitted he was a man in his 30s, but he did not stop when the apparent girls disclosed their true ages.
A judge noted, 'If anything you were encouraged.' After his arrest, Ali argued that he believed the 'girls' were adults engaged in roleplay.
Despite this, he pleaded guilty to attempting to have sexual communication with two minors, which prevented a jail sentence because the court considered his social isolation.
The police began monitoring Ali’s online activity in February 2019, after he sent a message to the first 'girl' stating he was 'horny'.
He shared a video and a picture of his genitals and asked her for images in return.
He continued with sexually explicit messages until the undercover officer ceased replying, and contact ended weeks later.
A second undercover officer also posed online as a 13-year-old girl, and Ali's exchanges with her were explicitly sexual from the start, prosecutor Justin Hayhoe explained.
Ali sent her a picture of his genitals and called her 'sexy'.
These messages lasted a few days in April 2019, leading to his arrest in August that year.
Ali accepted responsibility for the messages, explaining that he often used adult chat rooms for roleplay scenarios.
His defense lawyer, Sebastian Gardiner, stated that Ali, unemployed and suffering from health issues, had become socially isolated and sought refuge online.
During sentencing, Judge Patrick Field QC addressed Ali directly, saying: 'I have particular regard to the personal mitigation advanced on your behalf, in particular the element of personal isolation that you have experienced, that might well have led you into this rather dark corner of social media.' The judge acknowledged Ali's remorse, stating, 'You are ashamed of your actions, and so you should be.' Ali was convicted on two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and one count of attempting to cause a girl to watch a sexual act.
He received an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he is required to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.
