ABID KHANZADA AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN LONDON
A man accused of multiple sexual offenses in London has been sentenced to prison after police identified him through CCTV footage.Abid Khanzada, aged 27, was responsible for a series of disturbing assaults targeting lone women in the Camden area during a period spanning from January 15 to January 21.
During this time, Khanzada engaged in at least five separate incidents, mostly involving women in their early twenties.
The crimes included sexual assault and, in one case, digital penetration.
One particularly alarming incident involved Khanzada pushing a woman to the ground before subjecting her to a sexual assault.
According to court reports, he then pinned the victim against her front door and continued the assault until a member of the public intervened, challenging him and causing him to cease his attack.
The investigation into these crimes was spearheaded by officers from the Central North Public Protection team.
They meticulously examined hours of CCTV footage collected from various locations where the assaults occurred.
Their efforts paid off when, in the early hours of February 25, officers from the Public Protection Predatory Offender Unit were patrolling the area where the attacks had taken place.
During their patrol, they observed a man dressed similarly to the suspect and matching the physical description provided by witnesses.
The officers promptly detained the individual, who was later identified as Abid Khanzada.
During police custody, Khanzada chose to remain silent, offering no comments during his interview.
Following further investigation, he was formally charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration.
Khanzada appeared in court and pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault on June 5 at Wood Green Crown Court.
Subsequently, on July 19, he admitted to sexual assault by penetration, just prior to his trial.
His guilty pleas led to a sentencing hearing, and on September 13, he was sentenced to three years in prison.
The lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Tod, expressed his commitment to justice and the safety of women in London.
He emphasized the importance of the victims' bravery in coming forward, acknowledging that reliving such traumatic experiences is incredibly difficult.
Detective Tod stated, “We were absolutely determined to find the man responsible for such serious offences and bring him to justice.
Khanzada posed a significant threat to women.
He subjected these victims to a terrifying ordeal, and I would like to praise each and every one of them for their bravery in coming forward.
Reliving their experiences will have been extremely traumatic, but their actions have ensured that he won’t be able to assault further women.” He also reaffirmed the police’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of women on the streets of London, stating, “No one should live in fear of being the victim of such horrendous offences while simply going about their daily lives, and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure women feel safe on the streets of London.”
