ABUL RAUF FROM ROCHDALE JAILED FOR BEATING CHILDREN IN RELIGIOUS CLASSES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Rochdale, Abdul Rauf, a 51-year-old imam, has been sentenced to prison after a series of brutal assaults on young children during religious study sessions.

The court heard that Rauf, who resided on Sussex Street in Rochdale, was responsible for a pattern of violent behavior that inflicted physical harm on children as young as 10 years old.

According to court records, Rauf faced a total of 21 charges related to his abusive conduct.

The judge at Manchester Crown Court took into account approximately 80 separate attacks when passing sentence, highlighting the extent and severity of his misconduct.

Evidence presented during the trial included footage from CCTV cameras installed within a mosque teaching centre in Rochdale, which captured the repeated assaults carried out by Rauf.

Police investigations were triggered after reports emerged that two boys had been assaulted by Rauf in October of the previous year.

Authorities have stated that they are still uncertain about the full number of victims affected by Rauf’s actions, as the scope of the abuse may be broader than initially known.

The footage and witness testimonies revealed a pattern of violence, with children often left cowering and clutching their ears, arms, or legs in an attempt to shield themselves from the repeated blows.

Parents of the children involved were unaware of the extent of the abuse, trusting Rauf to care for their children during religious classes.

They were shocked to discover that their children were leaving the sessions covered in bruises, marks, and in pain from the physical punishments inflicted by Rauf.

The court was told that Rauf’s actions left the children visibly distressed and physically harmed, with some children appearing to be in pain and frightened after each incident.

Rauf was convicted and sentenced to a prison term of one year and five months.

He admitted to causing actual bodily harm to two boys aged 10 and 12, and was also found guilty of 19 additional assaults on other children whose identities remain unknown.

The case has raised serious concerns about safeguarding within religious institutions and the need for stricter oversight to prevent such abuse from occurring in the future.
