ABDIIFATAH MOHAMUD SENTENCED FOR RAPE AT LONDON'S KING'S CROSS STATION
A man with a disturbing history of manipulative and predatory behavior has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual assaults that took place within the busy confines of King's Cross railway station in London. The offender, Abdifatah Mohamud, aged 35 and residing on Bingfield Street in Islington, was found guilty of two counts of rape following a thorough investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP).
Mohamud's actions culminated in a brutal attack on a woman inside the station's toilets, an incident that shocked the local community and highlighted the ongoing issues of safety and security in public transportation hubs.
The court proceedings revealed a pattern of coercion and manipulation employed by Mohamud, who exploited the victim's trust and vulnerability.
On October 12, 2022, at approximately 5 pm, the victim was in a local park in the vicinity of London, where she was part of a group that included Mohamud.
During this encounter, he approached her, claiming familiarity by sharing a nickname and engaging her in conversation.
This initial contact set the stage for subsequent events that would unfold later that evening.
Later that same day, around 10 pm, the victim returned to King's Cross station and rejoined the same group from earlier.
It was during this reunion that Mohamud approached her once more.
Under the guise of friendliness, he coerced her into the station's toilets, where he committed the first of the two rapes for which he was ultimately convicted.
The assault was characterized by a calculated use of coercion, leaving the victim traumatized and frightened.
Following the assault, Mohamud attempted to manipulate the victim further by taking her to get food, ostensibly to reassure her and create a false sense of safety.
Despite this, he soon coerced her again into the toilets, where he forced her to take drugs and subjected her to a second rape.
The victim's distress grew evident as she became upset and vocal, prompting Mohamud to leave the scene abruptly.
Her ordeal did not end there.
A cleaner who discovered the distressed woman in the toilets promptly alerted security personnel, leading to a report being filed with the British Transport Police.
The police investigation quickly identified Mohamud as the perpetrator, and he was subsequently arrested and charged.
Detective Constable Adrienne Curzon, who led the investigation, expressed her thoughts on the case: “Mohamud is a calculating offender who used coercion and manipulation in order to rape the victim.
This has been an extremely frightening experience for her, and I hope this outcome goes some way to help her move on from the traumatising ordeal she was subjected to.” She further emphasized the importance of addressing sexual offences seriously, stating, “We take all reports of sexual offences seriously and I hope this sends a strong message to offenders that we will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.” Mohamud was sentenced today at Inner London Crown Court to a total of 11 years in prison.
In addition to his custodial sentence, he was handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a lifelong requirement to register on the Sex Offenders Register, underscoring the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
